Assistant Stage Manager Apprenticeship

Be part of the Hippodrome Theatre’s Artistic team by supporting and working with our resident Equity Stage Manager for our 52nd season.

This is a full season  Apprenticeship.

Housing with utilities and internet is provided. $400 weekly stipend. Independent contractor, IRS 1099 contract.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Assisting with scheduling rehearsals and costume fittings
  • Taking blocking notation, recording the cast’s movement and stage business as needed by the SM
  • Helping to facilitate the smooth running of rehearsals and performances
    Tracking props, costume pieces, and furniture for accurate setup and scene changes
  • Presetting rehearsal props and costumes as needed for scene work and performances
  • Being +ldquo;on book+rdquo; and assisting actors with their lines
  • Assisting the SM, director, cast, and design team as needed during rehearsal, tech, and performance
  • Participating in photo calls by setting props and helping with costume changes in anticipation for the next setup
  • Spiking furniture and scenic elements and executing accurate scene changes
  • Helping to maintain the overall quality of our productions by acting as Run Crew Chief
  • Keeping accurate and thorough production paperwork
  • Working and communicating effectively with other departments within the theatre
  • Performing administrative duties as needed
    Participate in organization-wide intern duties

Skill Requirements:

  • Be a contributing member of a very collaborative team.
  • Be a highly responsible and self-motivated team member.
  • Ability to multitask
  • Leadership experience
  • General knowledge of backstage operations, safety, and conventional theatre practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer literate, with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Google Drive and the internet
  • Flexibility, positive attitude, and a willingness to commit to long hours, hard work, and a demanding schedule
  • Great sense of urgency and ability to think on your feet
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy artistic environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with different personality types
  • Capable of working independently
