Volunteer

Volunteer at the Hipp

The smiling people who take your tickets and hand you programs before each Mainstage show are Hippodrome volunteers! Joining our team of volunteer ushers is a great way to meet new people, form bonds with “work friends,” or set a standing night out with your girlfriends.

What does an usher do? Ushers need to arrive at the theatre one hour prior to the performance to get ready for the audience. You’ll help patrons find their seats before the production and after intermission, help people exit the theatre afterward and help up the playbills people left in theatre. Oh – and you’ll get to watch the show for free.

The Hipp Cinema also needs volunteer ushers! Cinema ushers need to arrive 30 minutes before the film, take moviegoer’s tickets, then assist people in entering and exiting the cinema.

We also love hosting high school and college students who need volunteer service hours!

Are you interested in helping the gears that make the Hippodrome run like clockwork? Opportunities for volunteering outside of evening ushering events are always popping up in Marketing, Arts Administration, and Education. We are always in need of a helping hand to stuff an envelope, put a label on a postcard, or put a poster up in a window. Even better if you have a special passion – a seamstress interested in helping our shop tailor costumes? a Tai Chi teacher interested in leading a movement workshop for our young summer campers? Let us know!
