In this 3 part interactive VIRTUAL series, students will explore the world of the Cult Musical!

Join theater veteran Nick Hrutkay as he leads us through the milestones of the history of cult musicals (both stage productions and movies). Participants will explore songs, video and scenes, discuss artistic choices inspired by this musical theatre genre.

Students will explore the context of the cultural, political, and social environment in which songs and scenes were originally written and apply analytical skills through roundtable discussions to explore the effect cult musicals have had on the history of musical theatre. (Some parts of this workshops may include musicals with suggested sexual content and adult language. Students should be mature enough to discuss such content).

Students are asked to submit a recorded video of themselves singing a 16-bar song. This is in order for the director to choose material for them to perform and work on outside of class.
