Arts @ The Hipp
The Hippodrome’s mission is to provide a first-class regional theatre and artistic space committed to excellence in North Florida; to collaborate with extraordinary artists creating productions, education programs, events, and cinematic programing that reflect and elevate the diverse cultures and perspectives of our region; and to create and maintain ongoing engagement with our community.
The Hippodrome is celebrating its 47th season as the only professional theatre within a 120-mile radius of Gainesville, Florida. The Hippodrome is a multifunctional professional theatre complex housing a 268-seat thrust-stage. Each year, the Hippodrome produces at least eight fully-staged professional productions including one extended-run musical, and two holiday-themed shows.
The Hippodrome is celebrating its 37th year as the only independent cinema in Gainesville. Each year, the Cinema screens approximately 48 first-run independent, art-house, and documentary films; 40-70 special event screenings; and 3-5 film festivals.
The Hippodrome Gallery displays work from different local artists each month. The Gallery is part of Gainesville's monthly ArtWalks and is available to the public during business hours. The Gallery is also available to rent for your next meeting, party or event.
Our community events endeavor not only to engage members of our community that don’t typically attend mainstage productions, but work to reflect the diverse nature of our community. The Hipp’s community event space features regular Jazz Nights, Swing Dance Classes, Improv Nights, Open Mic sessions, and Salsa Dance Classes.
