Miracle on South Division Street: Observership @ Hippodrome Theatre
Feb 22 @ 12:45 pm – 3:45 pm

The behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it takes to create a Hippodrome Theatre mainstage production is back with the heartfelt comedy “Miracle on South Division Street” Mini Observership, beginning Friday, Feb. 8.

MEETING DATES:
– Friday, February 8 (12:45 – 3 p.m.) – Meet the cast and director, attend the first read-through, see design presentations.
– Friday, February 15 (3 – 5 p.m.) – Discuss the creative process with the designers and attend a rehearsal with the actors.
– Wednesday, February 27 (7 – 10 p.m.) – Preview performance and notes afterwards with the cast.

The Hippodrome’s Observership is a backstage pass to a world few audience members get to see. You will have the opportunity to join the cast and designers from the first rehearsal to the last. Question the actors about their craft. Learn how the designers create the world of the play. Become an active member of the Hippodrome creative family and join us to delve, dig, and discover how a show goes from the pages to the stage!

Our Spring Mini Observership will be “Miracle on South Division Street” by Tom Dudzick, who you may remember as the author of the Hipp hits “Over the Tavern” and “King of the Moon.” In this heartfelt and hilarious comedy, the Nowak’s family legend starts to unravel following a deathbed confession, and the family struggles through laughter to find their new identity.

Every family has its secrets. Most don’t build a shrine to them in front of their house. In “Miracle on South Division Street,” hilarity ensues as an age-old family myth crashes headlong into reality.

The NY Times says “Another winner… Give in to Miracle on South Division Street. You’ll be glad you did.”

Summer Spectacular: Session 1 @ Hippodrome Theatre
Jun 3 @ 8:45 am – 5:15 pm

Summer Spectacular campers explore a variety of theatre classes, movement, art classes, as well as acting for the screen, at the Hippodrome Theatre beginning June 3, 2019. Designed to give young people a glimpse into the performing arts classes are taught by theatre artists with years of experience in theatre education.

The camp culminates with a performance on the Hippodrome’s Mainstage where the students put all they have learned in their classes into action. This year Summer Spectacular presents “The Wizard of Oz.”

When the lights go up and Dorothy finds herself in the land of Oz—being hailed by the Munchkins for saving them from the Wicked Witch of the East—it is a pretty bewildering experience for a little girl from Kansas. But Dorothy bravely sets out to find a way back home and soon meets noble friends: the Scarecrow seeking brains, the Cowardly Lion who wants courage and the Tin Woodman who desires a heart above everything.
