But with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Zucchini eventually learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own. From its debut in Director’s Fortnight at Cannes to winning audience awards at Annecy, Melbourne and Angoulême, this accomplished debut feature from director Claude Barras, based on a script from acclaimed writer/director Céline Sciamma (GirlhoodTomboy), has received an overwhelming response from audiences worldwide, and is shortlisted as Switzerland’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards®. New York Film Critics Series: Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock

One Night Only! • Thursday, April 6th at 7:30PM

The Hippodrome + NYFCS are honored to present a private, pre-release screening of Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock from director Barney Clay.

SHOT! The Mick Rock Documentary is an odyssey into the colorful and crazy recesses of rock ‘n’ roll’s history. A reckless joyride that delves deep into the mind of rock’s greatest living photographer: Mick Rock. Told through the distorted lens of rock ‘n’ roll mythology, icon-maker, psychedelic explorer, shambolic poet and custodian of dreams, Mick Rock navigates his story from the glam rock shimmer of London to the snarl of NYC punk, and deep into the new millennium. Awaiting heart surgery after after a series of heart attacks, Mick turns inward to face himself – his past, the present and the future that will be born from the ashes of his resurrection. He stretched his nervous system to the limit to bring us the iconic images of the likes of David Bowie, Syd Barrett, Blondie, Queen, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. He shot them all and imprinted them on our collective psyche forever. “I’m still in awe of the power of the camera and its magical reflections. In many ways I love it more than ever.” This is The Mick Rock story.

Please join us after the screening for an exclusive Q&A with Rock Goddess, Penelope Spheeris.

Spirited Away 15th Anniversary Re-Release

ONE WEEKEND ONLY!

Friday, April 7th at 8:30PM
Saturday, April 8th at 7:30PM (SOLD OUT) & 10:00PM
Sunday, April 9th at 7:00PM

In cooperation with the Alachua County Library District’s Fandomonium, the Hipp Cinema will be screening Spirited Away as a special one-weekend only event. Admission is $12.  Guests of the Fandomonium Comic Event will receive a free popcorn with ticket!

Spirited Away is a 2001 anime fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli.  The film tells the story of Chihiro Ogino, a sullen ten-year-old girl who, while moving to a new neighborhood, enters the spirit world. After her parents are transformed into pigs by the witch Yubaba, Chihiro takes a job working in Yubaba’s bathhouse to find a way to free herself and her parents and return to the human world.

Longtime fans of Miyazaki’s Spirited Away can no doubt exhaustively attest to the movie’s peculiar brilliance, and might just be eager to take a few friends who haven’t seen the film already to a re-release screening to introduce them to the film proper. Miyazkai is arguably among the greatest living animators, and Spirited Away is far and away frequently cited as being one of the greatest animated films of all time.

Academy Award Winner – Best Animated Feature (2003)

“A visual masterpiece about a scared little girl’s breathtaking journey of self-discovery. All of the fun is getting there.”
