Black Films Matter: Blacula

During a visit to Transylvania, an African prince (William Marshall) gets turned into a vampire by Count Dracula (Charles McCauley). Sealed in a coffin for several lifetimes, “Blacula” reawakens in 1970s Los Angeles. Leaving a trail of bloodless victims in his wake, he pursues Lina (Vonetta McGee), a woman who bears a striking resemblance to his dead wife. Meanwhile, Dr. Gordon Thomas (Thalmus Rasulala) and top cop Lt. Peters (Gordon Pinsent) are hot on the bloodsucker’s trail.

Join the Hipp for a haunted night of the screening of BLACULA, a costume contest and a costume mixer with specialty drinks like the Blood Sucker Cocktail and the Zombie Gut Punch Cocktail!

During a visit to Transylvania, an African prince (William Marshall) gets turned into a vampire by Count Dracula (Charles McCauley). BLACULA screens for one-night-only at the Hipp Cinema at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 as part of October’s Black Films Matter series.

Weaving a Story: Adult Basket Weaving and Storytelling Course

The arts of storytelling and basket making weaved into one class for adults comes to the Hippodrome Theatre on Monday, Oct. 29! This series is on Mondays from Oct. 29 to Dec. 3, 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
 
Participants in this 6-part series will explore the oral tradition of storytelling while learning the art of basket-making. Class participants will work with seasoned storyteller and comedian Daniel Perea to harness their natural storytelling abilities while learning the art of Appalachian potato basket-weaving with visual artist Justine Henry. Toward the end of the series, students will perform a story and present a potato basket of their making.
