Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood

Watch the secret history of Hollywood unfold in the pre-Stonewall era in this 2017 documentary.

Having just been mustered out of the Marines Corps after the Second World War, Scotty Bowers comes to Hollywood in 1946. Strikingly handsome and personable, he immediately catches the eye of many of the town’s stars, who encounters him at the gas station where he worked on Hollywood Boulevard. Scotty begins having sex with many of the key players in the movie colony and soon starts connecting many of them with his band of beautiful and promiscuous friends, most of them newly discharged from the military.

It is designed for anyone who wants to improve their business and/or interpersonal communication skills. Each session will focus on a different aspect of these and will work to develop them into strengths. Students will learn how improv can help them unlock creative potential, solve problems, listen and react and make more effective decisions.
 
No previous experience is necessary!

The “Understanding Racial Disparities in Alachua County” report detailed disparities in employment, criminal justice, education, housing and poverty in Gainesville. How do we are a community address this?

Storytelling is a powerful art form creating connections and understanding. Self-Narrate is hosting a storytelling series to give a face and a voice to the statistics of those most affected by these disparities. Community leaders will also tell their personal stories, and of the challenges faced in addressing systemic racism. Through these stories we can build bridges and begin to work together.

This is endurance training for your imagination. Teens will take their improv and acting skills to the next level with this long-form improv course, which will culminate in the students creating a short, devised play.

The New York Times calls LET THE RIGHT ONE IN a ravishing little romance of the undead that’s guaranteed to warm – and break – your heart, even as it chills your blood.”

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN was adapted by Jack Thorne, the Tony award winning playwright of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child currently running on Broadway. Based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and the Swedish film by the same name (the Hollywood film is called LET ME IN), Artistic Director Lauren Warhol Caldwell will direct this captivating piece; a brutal and tender vampire myth told through the turbulence of a coming-of-age romance.

The Hippodrome Theatre is proud to partner with the University of Florida School of Music to bring the Hippodrome Jazz Series to the Hipp Lower Level starting Monday, September 10, 2018. Doors are at 7:00 p.m. and the music is from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Hippodrome Jazz series presents a range of jazz musicians who will play select Mondays and Thursdays through the months of September, November and October 2018.

“We are so excited about this collaboration to showcase some of Gainesville’s rising jazz stars and local jazz legends,” Scott Wilson, UF associate professor of jazz, said. “The Hippodrome jazz series will feature Brazilian jazz, Cuban jazz, Rhythm and Blues, New Orleans jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Hard Bop and Bebop.”

As a centerpiece of culture in downtown Gainesville, the Hippodrome Theatre is proud to host such talented musicians at the Lower Level and hope that when people think jazz, they come to the Hipp.
