The Folk and Art-in-the-Style-of-Folk Art exhibit features work of local Gainesville community artists. Come out to the Hipp Art Gallery for Art Walk on Friday, June 29 from 7-10 p.m. to enjoy a glass of wine and check out these unique pieces.
The Gallery presents 103 pieces of art contributed by 42 artists on the walls of The Gallery Oak Hammock and the Hippodrome Theatre.
During the opening reception on April 15, two curators at the Harn Museum of Art presented awards to 11 artists. Our own Sara Morsey received Judge’s Choice for “Shrine Mary,” Bill Paine for lighting design, and Nancy Reyes received Best-in-Show.
You can see their work at the Hippodrome Theatre Art Gallery and Oak Hammock between now and July 16, 2018.
The Pioneers of Rock ‘n Soul Show is a nonstop, no holds barred production that pays tribute to four of the essential soul and early rock trailblazers. The shows founder and star, Billy Buchanan, portrays Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, and Sam Cooke, with an unbelievable authenticity. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, the city where DJ Alan Freed first coined the phrase “Rock and Roll”, Billy has a deep musical heritage. He has opened for or shared the stage with Tower of Power, Jersey Boys On Tour, Harry Connick Jr., Betty LaVette, The Four Tops, Morris Day and The Time, Chaka Khan, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Funky Meters, to name a few. He was nominated for a Dove Award for his role in the touring production, Hero The Rock Opera, and was nominated for two Sunny Awards at The Sunburst Celebrity Impersonator’s Convention. His latest EP, “ShagShuffleShimmyShakeSwing Vol. 1”, was released in January 2018.
