Storytelling:is an ancient tradition that many historians believe has existed from the beginning of humankind.  Early people used storytelling to relive the adventures of the hunt, festivals and feasts.  Aristotle tells us that people by natureare imitative creatures so it should not surprise us that what may have begun as an oral tradition grew into an early form of theatre.  Instead of just telling the story people began acting it out. Cave paintings in southern France suggest that this form of storytelling may have begun as early as 30,000 years ago.
Storytelling is still part of our lives today.  We invite you to continue this rich tradition.  Remember, writers are most interesting when they write about things they know well and love. If you’re stuck and don’t know what to write, take a look around you.  You can write about your home or school, the town where you live, a person you know, a person you admire. When you tell a story to an audience, you show them the world through your eyes, and maybe you can change the way they see their own world. So go ahead, tell us a story. People have been doing it for years!
