* Three winning plays will be showcased on the Hippodrome’s 2nd Stage 
* Festival plays will be free and open to the public
* Travel allowances and hotel accomodations for winning playwrights

* Collaboration between director and winning playwright
* All play submissions will receive written feedback from the judges

Teen Playwright Festival Guidelines 
  • Length: 30-35 minutes.
    A good rule to follow: one typed double spaced page = one minute.
  • Cast size: no more than five characters; minimal sets; minimal props. 
  • All entries must be original. 
  • Screenplays or adaptations of other works are not eligible. 
  • Musicals are not eligible.
  • Must be between the ages of 13-19 years old
  • Two person collaborations will be allowed as long as both playwrights adhere to the age restrictions. 
  • Scripts must be securely fastened and typed in standard playwriting format as outlined below. SAMPLE SCRIPT FORMAT 
  • Submit two copies of your play,a brief synopsis of your play, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. 
  • Please keep a copy of your play for yourself, your plays will NOT be returned.
  • You will recieve written adjudication of your play.Sample Adjudication Form  
  • On the title page of your play type: name, email address, date of birth, home address, county of residence, telephone number, name of instructor, high school name and adress. 
  • Play submissions must also include "CURRICULUM GUIDE QUESTIONNAIRE"
  • You may be asked to submit proof of age (between 13-19). 
  • Scripts not following these guidelines will be ineligible.
STANDARD PLAYWRIGHTING FORMAT

 Every play submission should include the following sections and corresponding information.

CAST LIST *Cast of characters (in order of appearance) 
* Synopsis of play
TEXT *Character names centered
*Stage directions (in parentheses and italicized)

SCENES

“End of Scene” for end of scene or act
“Setting” description at beginning of new scene/act

FINAL PAGE List of props * Sound effects * Costume plot

DEADLINE Scripts must be postmarked by February 1, 2005. Scripts sent by fax or email will not be accepted. 
WINNERS Three winners will be announced by March 8, 2005.
