One Community One Story!

Join us for the 8th annual literary project, ONE COMMUNITY ONE STORY where we ask the community to read a selected book and explore its themes through creative community events. Past selections have included The Diary of Anne Frank, Romeo and Juliet, Nickel and Dimed, The War of the Worlds, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, The Chosen, and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

2009 marks our first venture into the world of Greek mythology as we explore the love story of Orpheus and Eurydice - a staple in classrooms throughout Alachua County and the muse of many artists, musicians and poets. At the heart of this year's events will be a luminous and exhilarating retelling of the story entitled EURYDICE by Pulitzer Prize finalist, Sarah Ruhl at the Hippodrome State Theatre, a professional regional theatre, in downtown Gainesville

The Hippodrome State Theatre is recognized by the State of Florida as a State Theatre/Cultural Institution. Hippodrome programs are sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Alachua County Board of County Commission’s Cultural and Environmental Funding Program and Tourist Development Tax, and by the City of Gainesville, Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
