Meet the Actors of



Aaron Ganas (Gunney Sergeant)

Aaron is thrilled to be performing in his first production at the Hippodrome. A recent theatre graduate from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, he worked both on stage and in technical theatre leadership positions while in school. Some of his favorite credits include Wonder of the World (Kip), Tartuffe (Valère), and Electra (Orestes). The Milwaukee native now calls Gainesville home. Aaron works in the education department at the Hippodrome directing in the Summer Spectacular program and teaching in the HITT program. Aaron is currently creating a radio piece featuring the HITT students from Loften high school.




Ryan George (Captain Lee King)

Ryan is a 5th year senior at The University of Florida and will be graduating with his Bachelor of Fine Arts this spring. His previous credits include Roger in Streamers, Hud in Hair, and Macbeth in Macbeth. He is absolutely excited to be making his professional debut with The Hippodrome State Theatre and wants to thank everyone in The Hippodrome family for giving him this opportunity.




Matthew Lindsay (Chaplain White)

Matthew was seen in last month’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone as Dwight, and is thrilled to be playing Chaplain White in Defiance. Past roles include Phillipe (Up) from last fall’s Hipp production,  Leo (Leading Ladies), Claudius (Hamlet), Kerry (The Exonerated), Dr. Rance (What The Butler Saw), Harry (Night Of The Living Dead),  Henry (The Real Thing), Sir Fopling (The Man of Mode),  Horst (Bent), Richard (Richard III), and Vincent (Vincent In Brixton). Matthew hails from California, where he earned a B.A. in theatre at CSUB. He is currently finishing an MFA in acting from UF, and continues to teach local youth with the Hipp’s H.I.T.T. educational outreach program. He is also teaching a Scene Study class at the Hipp for teens that will end with a special performance in March.  For information about H.I.T.T., visit our website at hitt.org.

Carolyn Popp* (Margaret Littlefield)

Carolyn is tickled pink to be the new kid on the block and working opposite her husband David Sitler in this stirring and provocative drama by one of her favorite playwrights. NYC credits include: Off-Broadway premiere of The Hired Man (Emily), Escape from Happiness (Nora), Fifth of July (June), Natural Affection (Sue), and Miss Reardon Drinks a Little (Ceil). Regional credits include: Lizzie (110 in the Shade), Agnes (I Do! I Do!), Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Kate (Dancing at Lughnasa), Kate (The Miracle Worker), Sybil (An Inspector Calls), Veta Louise (Harvey), Blanche (Broadway Bound), Vi (Footloose), Kost (Cabaret), Reverend Mother (Nunsensations), Miss Mona (Best Little Whorehouse in Texas), and Mother Frake opposite John Davidson (State Fair). Carolyn appeared as Stephen Colbert’s unsuspecting wife Claire on Comedy Central’s Strangers with Candy. Carolyn is a proud member of AEA.

David Sitler* (Lt. Colonel Littlefield)

David is thrilled to be back at the Hipp and completing his hat trick with this great staff, cast and crew in Defiance and especially with his wife Carolyn. He was last seen here as Dr. Farquhar playing a MINDGAME on his unsuspecting patient and audience alike and before that as Neil in The Pursuit of Happiness. He has worked on Broadway (An Inspector Calls) , toured the nation with Stacy Keach in Frost/Nixon and worked regionally from Maine to Utah in roles from Atticus to Scrooge. TV credits include Law and Order-SVU , As the World Turns, and Guiding Light and the award winning films Ghetto Dawg, Treeshade, Twelve and Synapse. More info at www.davidsitler.com. Jason Weiss* (P.F.C. Evan Davis )

Jason is pleased to be making his Hippodrome debut. Past credits include: Broadway: Ragtime (The Ford Center). Off-Broadway: Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation (29th Street Rep), …And Conting (2nd Stage), The Big Funk (The Greenwich Street Theatre), The Homecoming (The Cherry Lane), The Burrial At Thebes (La MaMa Etc). . Other selected NYC Credits: Pride's Crossing, The Unnatural Combat, Tim, El Salvador, Hamlet. Regional: Othello (Virginia Shakespeare Festival), King Lear, Romeo & Juliet, Et, As You Like It, The Winter's Tale (Princeton Rep), Biloxi Blues (Flat Rock Playhouse). FILM: The Book of Me, Nina. TV: 3 Years on ABC’s One Life To Live, All My Childern, Trackers, MTV’s Crib Crashers, Discovery Channel Film Shipwreck: Uss Squalus. Holds a BFA degree from the University of Miami and is currently a second year MFA student at the University of Florida. Jason is a proud member of Actors Equity.
