by Tennessee Williams

Last summer, something went terribly wrong. Only one person saw what happened, and nobody's sure if she can be trusted.

Seek the truth at the Hippodrome State Theatre as it opens Tennessee William's Suddenly Last Summer on February 29th. Rich playboy poet and seeker Sebastian Venable has died mysteriously on one of his many exotic travels. The only witness, his beautiful and estranged cousin Catharine, has been telling a story too savage and scandalous for respectable society. Now Sebastian's ferocious mother, Mrs. Venable, will do anything to silence Catharine's bizarre and twisted story and find the truth behind her son's death. Catharine's only hope lies in the judgment of the handsome and enigmatic Dr. Cukrowicz - who has a personal agenda of his own.

Set in the Garden District of New Orleans, Suddenly Last Summer is one of Tennessee Williams' most disturbing, poetic, and biographical plays. It is a southern gothic masterpiece that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you spell-bound until its haunting conclusion. Powerful performances combined with the talents of The Hippodrome's resident designers and the innovative handiwork of ThemeWorks, Inc., Suddenly Last Summer is must see theatre at it's finest. Featuring Hipp newcomers Beth Hylton (Catharine) and Scott Hudson (Dr. Cukrowicz), as well as veteran actress Sara Morsey (last seen in The Dead Guy) as Mrs. Venable. Nell Page, Michael Toth, Kate Kertez, and Libby Arnold will also be returning to our stage.

Will the truth set Catharine free? The answer awaits you at the Hippodrome beginning February 29th through March 23! For times and ticketing information, click here.

"No one else can use ordinary words with so much grace, allusiveness, sorcery, and power."
Brooks Atkinson, on Tennessee Williams.
