Adapted for the stage
from the George Romero/John Russo Classic Film

The 1968 cult classic film is now live on stage at the Hippodrome! Don't miss this terror-ific good time. It will make your skin crawl!

Undead creatures (AKA "zombies") have been brought to life by a mysterious force and are slowly wreaking havoc on a town not so far from you! Siblings Barbara and Johnny are paying their annual respects at a family grave when the first encounter with these beings takes place. Within seconds, the evening turns into a non-stop adrenaline rush of horror as the citizens of the town fight to stay away from the flesh-eating zombies. Barbara soon finds herself in an abandoned farmhouse where other survivors try to make sense of the evening's strange events. She is joined by Tom and Judy, a young couple who took refuge in the farmhouse on their way to a nearby lake and Ben, a strong-willed man whose eyewitness account of a zombie encounter near a local diner will give you chills. Adding tension to the mix is Harry Cooper, an ornery man who has his own ideas about how to stay safe, his wife Helen and their ailing child Karen, a recent victim of these attacks.

Split between floors of the farmhouse, (expertly designed for the Hippodrome's stage by Carlos Francisco Asse), the strangers take turns exploring ways to stay safe. Zombie "experts" in the audience may agree with some of their tactics, but most will admit that this is one evening that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you await the outcome. With the help of frequent news broadcasts by a local reporter and the town Sheriff, the refugees hang onto any string of advice and hope they can latch onto. In the end, though, it's every man for himself as the fight against these terrifying creatures is an uphill battle. Will there be any survivors?

The cast features well-known Hippodrome ensemble members Sara Morsey, Nell Page, and Armando Acevedo as well as many familiar talents from recent productions (including the choreography of Rachel Anton) and a cast of zombies from our own backyard of Gainesville!

With the unique vision of Artistic Director Lauren Caldwell, you can expect to be in for a wild ride of chills, thrills and maybe even a few laughs at this homage to the horror flick made famous by George Romero. Be prepared to squirm in your seats as you witness appropriately creepy makeup and costumes, atmospheric lighting, stunning special effects and an underscore that will scare and delight you.

For an unforgettable Halloween month, don't miss Night of the Living Dead at the Hippodrome State Theatre. The thrill awaits you if you dare accept it!
