Best-selling romance novelist
Paul Sheldon is lucky to be alive. Or is he? Find out in Misery adapted
by Simon Moore from the
“King” of horror, Stephen
King.
This stunning adaptation of
the Stephen King classic will keep you on the edge of your seat! Famous
author Paul Sheldon has
just finished another romance
novel about the beautiful heroine, Misery Chastain. But while driving in
a snowstorm while slightly
inebriated, Paul’s car goes
off the road leaving the only copy of the manuscript and its author trapped
inside. Lucky for him,
Paul is rescued by former
nurse, Annie Wilkes, his “number one fan.” When he awakes, he finds himself
in an old farmhouse
cut off from the rest of the
world. His crushed legs and excruciating pain make him a prisoner to Annie
who insists that she will
nurse him back to health,
but refuses to tell anyone his whereabouts. To make matters worse, this
schizophrenic fan is not
happy with Paul’s latest novel.
She makes him burn it and start over, propelling Paul into a living hell.
Like Scheherazade in The
Arabian Nights, Paul weaves
a new story chapter-by-chapter, in order to survive. Does he make it?
Stephen King drew from personal
experience for Misery when his own fame was on he rise. He posed for a
Polaroid photo
with a man who described himself
as King’s “number one fan.” Sometime later, this fan made front-page news
as Mark
Chapman, the man who shot
John Lennon after asking for his autograph. Misery became King’s
response to the invasion of
life on the rise to fame.
It was also hailed by critics as King’s masterpiece. When it was adapted
for the stage by British
writer-director Simon Moore,
it achieved even more critical praise: “To make an audience gasp and laugh
at the same instant is
quite an achievement…this
is a compellingly cruel thriller.” (Daily Mail).
