What’s the difference between a preacher and a salesman?  Come find out in this hilarious hit from the 1999 Humana Festival of New American Plays—the country’s most prestigious showcase for new American theatre.  Charismatic pastor Jerry Mears auditions for the top job at the biggest Baptist church of them all, preaching to a congregation of thousands and having tea with Presidents.  But when Philip Gottschall, the aging church leader, clings to his dynasty, the stage is set for a clash of wills and wits worthy of the latest Wall Street merger.  Dueling Texas televangelists duke it out over the 10 o’clock service, with faith caught in the middle.  A touching, irreverent, sidesplitting look at religion in the age of the mass media.
