February 2nd - March 1st

Andrew Maben

My mission as an artist is to express my joy in the beauty to be found all around us here on our long-suffering, generous planet Earth. Beauty is solace, and yes sometimes reproof: solace in those “dark nights of the soul” that occasionally beset us, and reproof for taking too seriously our own sorrows. And art is alchemy, a process that through its magic may transmute pain into beauty. It iis my hope that by sharing my experience of beauty I may bring that solace into others’ lives, at least momentarily.

Photography is a means to capture an image, a frozen moment, with a transcendant immediacy, transforming the fleeting into something that may approach the eternal. Look! Open your eyes and look - this world is a paradise...

Artist. Traveler. Writer. Raconteur. Poet. Musician. Seeker. I have been called many things by many people, (including many far less flattering!)

My brief formal training in Art was at Eastbourne School of Art, Sussex, England. But my real apprenticeship has been a life’s journey that has led me from rural Devonshire to Swinging London. From a strict and hidebound English Public School to the wild permissiveness of rock n’ roll. From Paris to Amsterdam to Los Angeles. From house painter to cab driver to graphic designer to webmaster. From Tijuana to Tierra del Fuego. To Europe and to Bombay and Goa. Looking for beauty, love and enlightenment. Finding joy, and pain. Sorrow and laughter. Solitude and friendship.

My art is a celebration of this life I have been given to live, of the beauty of the mundane and the exotic. I am happy to return to creativity after an involuntary hiatus.
