Reception and 70th Birthday Celebration - ArtWalk Friday, September 24
To paraphrase Ansel Adams - " There are always two people in every picture; the photographer and the viewer ...” Clearly, Ansel did not allow for my first love …… portraiture. In portraiture there is a minimum of three people in the picture – the photographer, viewer and the subject.
“This is how I would like to be perceived” portraiture is abhorrent to me; it may flatter, but it fails to reveal.
My goal as a portrait photographer is not to somehow transform my subject but to have my subject transform me by entrusting me, if only for a moment, with a glimpse of their spirit as well as of their face.
