Are you looking to fuse your love for the arts with the graphic-design skills you’ve been developing in college? Do you have a can-do attitude and a focus on creating quality content? And do you like to have fun? Then the Hipp’s graphic design internship might be for you! 

As a graphic design intern, you’ll be responsible for getting people to buy into the Hippodrome. Sure, we want people to buy tickets to our Mainstage shows and cinema screenings. But we also want them to buy into this place that we love so much. The Hippodrome is a true cornerstone of downtown Gainesville, and your job as a graphic design intern is to make sure that the community doesn’t just know that — they feel it. We want you to get people flowing in through our doors, excited about our programming and our mission.

While working with our marketing team, you’ll have the opportunity to create original content for our website and social media pages. You’ll become one of the most in-the-know people about the downtown area. You’ll be pushed to flex your creative muscles and produce meaningful work. If you’re up for the challenge, we think you’ll really enjoy yourself.


This internship includes working at the theatre during weekday office hours, as well as occasionally working evening/weekend Mainstage performances.
Positions are available for Fall 2017. This is a part-time internship. Reports to the Managing Director and Marketing Assistant.

Essential Job Functions

  • Design newsletters, print advertisements, flyers and online advertising
  • Create website and social-media graphics based on style guide, production themes and artistic vision
  • Create interesting, engaging and relevant social media content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Take quality photos to promote Mainstage shows, cinema screenings, rental spaces, education programs and special events
  • Write effective press releases that will be sent out to a wide range of publications, including The Gainesville Sun and The Alligator
  • Meet strict advertising placement deadlines for online and print magazines
  • Pick up and deliver marketing materials; organize and schedule other interns to assist with print campaigns, such as distributing materials and completing local postering routes
  • Work special events, intern duties including subscriptions tabling, and help at strike

Skill Requirements

  • Currently studying journalism, public relations, marketing or another related field at an accredited institution; other applicants will be considered if they have comparable skills and drive
  • Flexible, positive, go-getter attitude; evening and weekend hours are sometimes required
  • An enthusiastic, self-motivated and creative personality
  • A commitment to promptness and a proven reliability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy artistic environment
  • Ability to think on feet and step into unfamiliar roles
  • Ability to create outstanding images and generate fresh social-media content; access to a DSLR camera/quality phone camera (i.e. iPhone 6/iPhone 7) is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a firm grasp on AP Style a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented but able to envision the theatre’s long-term goals
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and other Adobe programs
  • Knowledge of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; proven experience operating a professional business or organization’s social media is a plus
  • Brownie points: Knowledge of WordPress and Constant Contact, or similar applications desired
