| “[A Christmas Carol is] a
national benefit, and to every man and woman who reads it, a personal kindness.” - William Thackeray
|
| The 19th century wisdom of William Thackeray predicted the long-running
success of A Christmas Carol. The Hippodrome State Theatre
celebrates its 21st annual production of Charles Dickens' perennial holiday
favorite, A Christmas Carol, from December 1 - 20. Adapted
and directed by Producing Director Mary Hausch, the Hippodrome's A Christmas
Carol breathes new life into this uplifting Christmas drama with scintillating
new special effects and a fresh new script.
The Hippodrome's adaptation places new emphasis on the character
of Jacob Marley, Scrooge's deceased partner and the catalyst for the miserly
Scrooge's transformation into a giddy philanthropist. Marley will
act as our spirit guide into the netherworld as we travel with Scrooge's
ghostly visitors through time and space. The adaptation features
more than 20 performers, many of whom are Gainesville area children.
