Internationally acclaimed guitarist and composer Ulisses Rocha is performing once again at the Hippodrome as part of his farewell concert tour on Friday, May 19th at 8PM.
Considered one of Brazil’s finest guitarist and composers in the past twenty years, Ulisses Rocha has achieved international acclaim with his performances in international festivals in the United States, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Russia, Cuba, Syria, Kuwait, Zimbabwe, Paraguay, France, Lithuania, Japan, Netherlands, and Belgium. He has collaborated with renowned Brazilian artists, such as Gal Costa and Cesar Camargo Mariano and recorded with Hermeto Pascoal. He has also shared the stage in special performances with Egberto Gismonti, Al Di Meola, Eliane Elias, Marco Pereira, Toquinho, and Paulo Belinatti. A prolific performer, Mr. Rocha has released over 12 CDs, 3 videotapes, and a guitar book. In addition to his own compositions, Mr. Rocha has also recorded numerous collections and works by other artists.
Mr. Rocha is currently a visiting professor at the University of Florida, where he performs and records as a soloist, while also continuing his musical collaborations with some of Brazil’s most prominent artists. Mr. Rocha has taught at the Unicamp (University of Campinas, Brazil) since 1990. From 2012 to 2013, he was a Bacardi Scholar at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida.
