A Stage Horror Parody By Dale Gutzman
October 14-November 6; previews October 12 & 13
Be Ruthless to Your Sister  | East Coast Premier

In 1962, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford starred in a masterpiece that quickly became a cult classic. Live on stage, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane: a Stage Horror Parody brings you the story of a former child star who torments her sister in their decaying Hollywood mansion. Just in time for the Halloween season, get ready for a gloriously campy black comedy… with a twist! “Only when you see Baby Jane, will you really know, and the answer is: Total Suspense.”

From award-winning director Keiichi Hara (Colorful) and Japanese powerhouse Production I.G (creators of Ghost in the Shell and A Letter to Momo) comes a remarkable story of a blossoming young artist. As all of Edo flocks to see the work of the famous painter Hokusai, his daughter O-Ei toils diligently inside his studio, unknown to the public. Her masterful portraits, dragons and erotic sketches – sold under the name of her father – are coveted by upper crust Lords and journeyman print makers alike. In public, O-Ei knows and respects her place,” but at home in the studio, she’s as brash and uninhibited as her father. But despite her talent and fiercely independent spirit, O-Ei struggles under the domineering influence of her father and is ridiculed for lacking the life experience that she is attempting to portray in her art. Miss Hokusai‘s lively Edo (present day Tokyo) is filled with yokai spirits, dragons, and conniving tradesmen, while O-Ei’s relationships with her famously impetuous father and blind younger sister provide a powerful emotional underpinning to this rollicking and sumptuously-animated feminist coming-of-age tale.

Shines as an example of one creative soul paying tribute to another! A stellar example of the oft-cited principle that animation is an art form, not a genre.” – Peter Debruge, Variety

Gorgeous! A small poetic wonder! That an anime film can explore such complex subjects so beautifully in what’s nominally an artist’s biopic is a blessing in itself.” – Boyd van Hoeij, The Hollywood Reporter

Dutch immigrant, Harry deLeyer, journeyed to the United States after World War II and developed a transformative relationship with a broken down Amish plow horse he rescued off a slaughter truck bound for the glue factory. Harry paid eighty dollars for the horse and named him Snowman. In less than two years, Harry & Snowman went on to win the triple crown of show jumping, beating the nations blue bloods and they became famous and traveled around the world together. Their chance meeting at a Pennsylvania horse auction saved them both and crafted a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Eighty-six year old Harry tells their Cinderella love story firsthand, as he continues to train on today’s show jumping circuit.

“Equine fans: Gallop, don’t trot to Ron Davis’ winning documentary Harry & Snowman, which recounts the inspiring story of an underdog show horse, his tenacious trainer and their rise to fame in the late 1950s. .” – L.A. Times

“In the film, a student of Mr. deLeyer’s recalls some of his advice: “Throw your heart over the top, and your horse will follow.” Harry & Snowman makes you want to do the same.” – N.Y Times

A child’s angelic face conceals a budding sociopath in the audacious, senses-shattering feature debut from actor Brady Corbet. A powerhouse international cast led by Robert Pattinson and Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) headlines this dark domestic nightmare. Set amidst the turmoil of World War I and its aftermath, it follows the young son of an American diplomat living in France as he learns to manipulate the adults around him-a monstrous coming of age that ominously parallels the rising tide of Fascism in Europe. A stylistically fearless tour-de-force, The Childhood of a Leader reaches fever-pitch delirium thanks to ravishing cinematography and a thunderous score by legendary, boundary-pushing musician Scott Walker.

“Corbet’s inaugural stint behind the camera marks a stunning debut.” -CineVue

“With his unusually accomplished directorial debut Childhood of a Leader, Corbet delivers a strange and startling film that reflects the unique trajectory of his career, as well as the influence of the iconoclastic directors with whom he’s already worked.”
